Update On Devon’s Health 1.31.13

Another update….First, thank you to everyone who chipped in for gift cards and flowers and magazines in Friends of Fishhawk. You don’t know how much that helps us. I went in Tampa General Hospital with a 104 fever a week ago and I just got home. All ten of my toes and part of both my feet were amputated. Everything was ok, until I tried to come home. Walking is torturous with no toes at all. They have a home nurse coming in everyday to teach me, but I haven’t seen them. I will heal. I appreciate everyone supporting my family and my cause.

Thank you to EVERYONE who came to The Tea Cup function and supported it. April Paleveda Curcio, Debbie Cook Eisenberg, Kelly Glenn Rowjohn and my mother put it all together and made it happen again. I heard about all of you that came and surprised me...

The latest fundraiser is a high tea planned today, Jan. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Tea Cup Tea Room, 1107 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Brandon. The cost of $30 includes soup, sandwiches, salad and dessert.

FishHawk girl, 11, raises money for Operation Kidney

By Teresa Slattery Amin, Times Correspondent

In Print: Sunday, January 20, 2013

LITHIA

Maddie Eisenberg saw the Facebook request asking for gift baskets for a silent auction and bowl-a-thon to benefit Operation Kidney for Devon Cooley Carter, a young mom in need of a kidney donor.

Maddie, 11, wanted to help, so she and her mom, Debbie, made a gift basket with a theme of keeping kids busy on a rainy day. It included movie tickets and books.

That was just the beginning.

Maddie then enlisted the help of her neighbors in FishHawk to bake and sell cupcakes during the FishHawk Ranch yard sale. She made poster boards to draw awareness to Carter’s cause.

Eventually, she raised $625 for Operation Kidney to benefit Carter, and she continues to stay involved to help Carter draw awareness to her caus...

ABC Action News- Stranger Donates Billboard for Kidney Patient

Posted: 01/16/2013

LITHIA, Fla. – Devon Carver desperately needs a kidney, and a stranger has stepped in to help with a message for all the Tampa Bay area to see.

When Carver is not hooked up to a dialysis machine, she is going through her bills to figure out how her family can make ends meet.  And more importantly, how she can stay alive.

“I have not felt remotely healthy since I was 21.” said Carver. “They don’t think I have time to wait for a cadaver kidney, which could take six or seven years. Doctors think a live kidney is my best chance, but we’ve been praying and waiting for more than a year-and-a-half.”

The loving wife and mother to a 12-year-old son, Devon needs a kidney.

The family has drained their savings and the college account for David is depleted.

She needs a new kidney, again.

Now, Devon Carver’s story is getting out to people across the Tampa area, thanks to multiple billboards along area roadways.
They read: “Local Mother Needs Living Kidney Donor.”

“I hope it saves my life,” Carver said.

A neighbor helped launch the billboard, which CBS Outdoor is running as a public service announcement.
It shows Devon and her 12-year-old son.
Carver was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was two.

She had been warned about some of the complications that can go along with the disease, but vowed they would never happen to her.

Now, at age 34, it is happening. Devon is on dialysis eleven hours a day and has already had one failed kidney transplant.

“It’s been a bad go-aroun...

I urge you to read up on the subject as much as you can. There is a TON of information on the internet about this subject.

Here are the steps you would have to take to begin the process of getting accepted for live donation.
